Room: 606호 **[Will be presented in Korean / 한국어로 진행 예정]** 개최일시 : 2024.10.10(목) 개최장소: 서울시립대학교 백주념 기념관 606호 강연자 : 서진주(하이델베르그 대학교) ***Overview of heavy flavour physics*** Heavy quarks, such as charm (c) and beauty (b), are unique probes to investigate the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formed in heavy-ion collisions. Due to their large masses -significantly higher than the expected QGP temperature- heavy quarks are predominantly produced in the early stages of collisions through initial hard scatterings. Their formation time is extremely short, less than 0.1 fm/c, allowing them to traverse the entire medium and experience its full evolution. Heavy quark production cross sections can be calculated using perturbative QCD (pQCD). The quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is a state of matter in which quarks and gluons are deconfined due to extreme temperature and energy density conditions. This deconfined phase is considered to have existed in the early universe. Studying the QGP provides critical insights into the nature of the strong force, described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), and the transition between normal hadronic matter and the deconfined quark-gluon phase. A key aspect of heavy-ion physics is the study of how heavy quarks interact with and propagate through the QGP via heavy flavour hadrons. Open heavy flavour hadrons, which are hadrons containing at least one heavy quark (such as charm or beauty) but not their corresponding antiquark, are crucial for studying the properties of heavy quarks in the QGP. Their production yields and kinematic distributions provide essential information on hadronization processes in both small and large collision systems. Quarkonia, bound states of a heavy quark and its corresponding antiquark (such as charmonium or bottomonium), serve as another essential probe of QGP. The suppression of quarkonia in heavy-ion collisions, relative to proton-proton collisions, is a clear signature of the deconfinement of quarks and gluons in the QGP and also can provide the properties of the medium, such as its temperature and density. This presentation will focus on the latest experimental open heavy flavour hadrons and quarkonia results. Detailed insights into charm quark hadronization mechanisms and the dynamics of heavy quarks within the QGP will also be discussed. 맵시쿼크(c)나 바닥쿼크(b)와 같은 무거운 쿼크는 중이온 충돌에서 형성되는 쿼크-글루온 플라스마(QGP)를 조사하는 독특한 프로브입니다. 예상되는 QGP 온도보다 상당히 높은 큰 질량으로 인해 무거운 쿼크는 주로 초기 경산란(initial hard scattering)을 통해 충돌 초기 단계에서 생성되며 형성 시간이 0.1 fm/c 미만으로 매우 짧아 무거운 쿼크가 강입자화되기 이전에 이 전체 매질(QGP)을 횡단할 수 있고, QGP의 생성부터 종결까지의 완전한 과정을 거치도록 할 수 있습니다. (이로서 무거운 맛깔의 -무거운 쿼크를 포함한- 강입자는 QGP 의 특성을 일부 가진 채로 QGP 밖으로 나오게 됩니다.) 무거운 쿼크 생성 단면적은 섭동 QCD(pQCD)를 사용하여 계산할 수 있습니다. 쿼크-글루온 플라스마(QGP)는 극한의 온도와 에너지 밀도 조건으로 인해 쿼크와 글루온이 분리된 물질 상태로, 초기 우주가 이 상태 였던 것으로 추정하고 있습니다. QGP를 연구하면 양자색역학(QCD)에서 설명하는 강력의 본질과 일반적인 강입자적 물질(hadronic matter)과 비구속상태의 쿼크-글루온(deconfined quark-gluon)사이의 상전이(phase transition)에 대한 중요한 연구 결과를 얻을 수 있습니다. 중이온 물리학의 핵심 측면은 무거운 쿼크가 무거운 맛깔의 강입자를 통해 QGP와 상호 작용하고 QGP를 통해 전파되는 방식을 연구하는 것입니다. 무거운 쿼크(예: charm 또는 bottom)를 포함하지만 해당 반쿼크는 포함하지 않는 하드론인 *무거운 맛깔의 개방형 강입자*(open heavy flavour hadron)는 QGP 내부에서의 무거운 쿼크의 속성을 연구하는 데 중요합니다. 이들의 생성량과 운동량 분포는 소규모 및 대규모 충돌 시스템에서 강입자화(hadronization) 과정에 대한 필수 정보를 제공합니다. 무거운 쿼크와 해당 반쿼크(예: charmonium 또는 bottomonium)의 결합 상태인 쿼코니아(quarkonium; quarkonia)는 QGP의 또 다른 프로브 역할을 합니다. 양성자-양성자 충돌에 비해 중이온 충돌에서 쿼코니아의 생성이 억제되는 것은 QGP에서 쿼크와 글루온이 분리되는 명확한 신호이며, 온도와 밀도와 같은 매질의 특성을 제공할 수도 있습니다. 이 프레젠테이션은 핵물리학에서 이와 같은 것을 보기 위한 기초와 *무거운 맛깔의 개방형 하드론과 쿼코니아* 최신 실험 결과(처음 보는 사람의 흥미성을 위주로)를 소개합니다. 또한, 맵시 쿼크 강입자화 과정과 QGP 내의 중입자 쿼크의 역학에 대한 사항 또한 언급할 것입니다.
